Ghanaian Glass Beads

Ghanaian Glass Beads

Crafted by members of Ghana's Krobo tribe in Western Africa using centuries-old technique, these glass beads are made by compressing glass into a dry grain, heating the grain so that the pieces meld together, then pouring the liquid into a porcelain cast. Using the stem of a cassava leaf to create the stringing hole, the beads are then baked until the stem burns.
